SMARTCON® 2-3 day EMV Training course

Learn the most important concepts of the EMV technology

Understand what happens in each stage of an EMV transaction and what are the roles of cards, terminals and hosts. Synchronize the knowledge of your team, increasing considerably its productivity.

At terminal level:

  • Understand how application selection works and how terminals can be configured to accept EMV applications
  • Learn what are the different authentication mechanisms defined by EMV – Static Data Authentication (SDA), Dynamic Data Authentication (DDA) and Combined DDA (CDA)
  • Learn what are the cardholder authentication methods (CAM) defined by EMV and how they can be configured by the Issuer
  • Understand how EMV terminals instruct cards to sign transaction data and produce “cryptograms‟
  • Learn the differences between off-line and on-line transactions
  • Understand how terminals communicate with hosts and how host scripts are sent to cards
  • Understand the interactions between EMV and Near Field Communications (NFC) technologies

At card level:

  • Learn how cards are personalized, how keys and data are generated
  • Understand the differences between SDA (low cost) and DDA/CDA (high end) cards and the applications (VSDC, M/Chip, etc.) deployed by the brands

  • Understand how EMV is being used in novel scenarios such as Internet and mobile payments

Training details:

  • Optional EMV Workshop: hands-on experience: SMARTCON offers an unique optional module –an EMV workshop – where trainees can work with real cards, real terminals and inspect real data, operating SMARTCON EMV software tools developed specifically to facilitate EMV learning
  • Who should be trained?: Understand how EMV is being used in novel scenarios such as Internet and mobile payments
  • What are the prerequisites?: There are no formal pre-requisites, however, a general understanding of payment applications is desirable
  • How the course is organized?: The course is organized in a typical 2-3 days session, depending on the size of the class and required program
